The Torchlight Procession is a highlight of Fowey Regatta week, with illuminated boats parading through the harbour before the spectacular fireworks finale. Having last been held in 2019, the event makes its grand return to Regatta this year on Saturday 23rd August 2025. Whether you are participating on the water or watching from ashore, please help us keep everyone safe by following the guidelines below.

SPACE

For those taking part on the water:

  • Gather off Passage Slip ready for the start (launch from Caffa Mill).
  • Follow the slow route downriver to Town Quay, then disperse, being mindful of others.
  • Use chemical or battery-powered lights – the Regatta Committee are also providing LED bracelets.
    • Naked flames are not permitted
    • Distress flares must not be set off.
  • Keep safe distances from other vessels and stay within the 6-knot speed limit.
  • Any afloat spectators must also display a suitable light so they can be seen.
  • Follow any instructions from Harbour Patrol, who will be afloat throughout the event.
    • Contact on VHF Ch.12 if required.

SPACE

Between 21:00 and 22:30, large ship movements will be suspended and port traffic will be restricted between Caffa Mill and Whitehouse Quay. Vessels moored near the fireworks site should check for falling debris afterwards, and any boats underway during the display should maintain a sharp lookout to avoid collisions. In the unlikely event of a lifeboat launch, give way immediately when safe to do so, and keep clear. Please check our Harbour Notices page for additional information.

For spectators ashore:

  • Keep clear of working areas and follow Regatta marshal instructions.
  • Expect heavier pedestrian and vehicle traffic – allow extra time for travel and parking.

The event will take place within a patrolled zone, with fast response Harbour Patrol craft on the water. Weather conditions will be reviewed on the day and the event may be cancelled if conditions are unsafe.
