There is a necessity to turn vessels in the lower harbour and manoeuvre them stern first to the berths due to the narrow confines of Fowey harbour off the jetties
One tug is used to carry out this operation for vessels in excess of 92m. Vessels over 102m in overall length require the use of two tugs.
This operation is carried out at slack water by the Harbour Commissioners' two harbour tugs,'Morgawr' and 'Cormilan'.
The largest vessel handled to the commercial Jetties to date was 170 metres in length and 17000 DWT.
Cruise Liners up to 220m LOA are handled in the lower harbour.
